Barry’s Pick of the Week — Weapon Brown

Written and Drawn by Jason Yungbluth

Standard Comic
Black & White
Page Count: 48

In this action-packed 48-page one-shot lampooning the most popular comic strip of all time, Chuck “Weapon” Brown is on a quest to find his little red-haired girlfriend, abducted by the demented cult leader Linus. Along the way he encounters adult versions of the entire roster of his childhood friends, and settles all the scores remaining from his bitter youth.

After the apocalyptic Last War, a certain round-headed kid and his trusty mutt have to grow up fast. Now this former “failure face” strides the wasteland of the American comics page as the pitiless cyborg mercenary Weapon Brown, and the last thing you want to do is not let him kick the damn football.

Barry says “A brilliantly executed Peanuts parody chock full of nihilism and set in a dystopic, post-apocalyptic future … yeah, you read that right … I said Peanuts.”

  1. I read this book a few years ago, a friend bought it at comicon, and I was cracking up the entire time. Demented and funny it was made with an obvious love for the source material but it wasn’t afraid to tip over sacred cows. Worth the few bucks it costs.
