Been quite a while since we posted anything to the front of the site here, huh? Things have been crazy, crazy busy around here the past several months. Awww, who am I kidding? Things have been crazy busy around here for the past several years! Still, we should — and will from here on — do a much better job of keeping you updated. So with that said, here’s what’s happening at Ka-Blam …
Some of you may have noticed that our digital download site — IndyPlanet Digital — is down. We’ve been asked often if it will be back. The answer is both yes and no. As a separate digital download only site IndyPlanet Digital will not be returning. But wait, there’s no bad news here! Digital downloads will return to IndyPlanet … bigger and better than ever!
Over the past several weeks, we’ve had IndyPlanet completely rebuilt! Completely rebuilt. New design, new software, new — and vastly improved — interface and shopping cart. There are loads of new features and functions that make the site exponentially superior to the existing site. One of those new features is a full integration of what was IndyPlanet Digital. It’s done. It’s built. And once the site goes live IndyPlanet will be a one-stop shop for both buyers of independent print comics and those who prefer their comics in digital download format.
So when’s it going to be live and why isn’t already? IndyPlanet has north of 9,000 items listed. We’ve always allowed publishers to maintain and administer their own listings. And in the past we haven’t always done the job we should have in overseeing that. We made the decision to do a complete audit of all 9,000 plus item listings before flipping the switch on the new site. We’re double checking all listings — sample graphics, item descriptions, summaries, category assignments, publisher listings, related items. It’s a big, big job, but one we think well worth doing as it will make IndyPlanet much more shopper friendly and easy to navigate. And a better shopping experience should translate into better sales for all of our users. Our target launch date is January 2014.
So what else is going on?
Well, we decided that if we were going to have IndyPlanet rebuilt then we should do the same for Ka-Blam. So we’ve hired an immensely skilled web designer to build the Ka-Blam site we’ve always dreamed of. The rebuild of Ka-Blam is in the very early stages and we’ll be providing more details soon, but look for that sometime in early 2014 as well.
